Profile
Titan is a high‑alpha hop from the Hop Research Center in Hüll, Germany. It's the result of crossing Polaris (mother) with a Hüll breeding line, with Hercules as a "grandmother" in the family tree. The breeding goal was to keep Herkules-like yield, bitterness quality, and robustness, while adding even better disease resistance and agronomic traits. The variety was specifically designed for reliability under increasingly stressful growing conditions due to climate change, so you're likely to see it promoted as a more sustainable alternative to other bittering hops such as Herkules.
In the brewhouse, Titan is a clean, modern bittering hop with a classic hop character in the background. As early and mid‑boil additions it delivers a solid, high‑quality bitterness: fast to rise, full in the main sip, then dropping away smoothly without harsh linger - similar to Herkules but with its own refined edge. Aroma-wise, raw cones show "hop-typical" notes with green fruit, sweet fruit, soft citrus, light menthol, hints of curry spice and geranium. Don't expect a new world tropical bomb. Instead, you get a balanced, subtle profile that can underpin English IPAs, British Pale Ales, Strong Bitters, and Golden Ales, especially if you layer brighter late‑addition or dry‑hop varieties on top.
