Profile

Flinders is a high‑alpha hop variety coming out of the Australian craft scene, associated with breweries like Rocky Ridge. It doesn't have a long, documented pedigree like the classic European landraces, but it's clearly been bred with both bittering efficiency and distinct character in mind. Think of it as an antipodean twist on "noble‑plus" hops: enough floral and spicy character to sit comfortably in traditional styles, but with a modern, pungent edge that makes it stand out in hop‑forward beers.

In terms of flavor and aroma, Flinders is very floral and herbal with a solid spicy backbone, while brewers also report dank, resinous, and pungent notes. Used as a late addition (whirlpool or dry hop), it throws interesting marmalade and citrus‑preserve tones that can add depth to Saisons, Belgian Blonde Ales, and modern Pale Ales. As a high‑alpha variety with "smooth yet robust" bitterness, it also works well for bittering charges where you still want some character to shine through, such as in Czech Pilsners, India Pale Lagers, or hop‑forward lagers.
